Understanding the Briefs Menu

The Briefs menu in contentmarketing.ai allows you to set detailed creative guidelines that shape how the AI generates content for your brand. In this article, you’ll learn how to use and create the three main types of editable briefs—Brand Briefs, Target Audience Briefs, and Writing Style Briefs—as well as explore preset options for Social and Image Style Briefs. By customizing these briefs, you can ensure the content aligns perfectly with your brand identity, audience expectations, and communication style.

What Are Briefs?

Briefs act as the intelligence layer behind the AI, guiding how it creates content. They serve as a set of rules that define:

  • Tone of voice

  • Writing style

  • Target audience characteristics

  • Brand values

  • Compliance preferences

  • Do’s and don’ts

Briefs help the AI generate accurate, on-brand, and goal-aligned content for every content piece you create on the platform.

Brand Briefs

Brand Briefs define the overall identity of your brand and are used to train the AI on how to represent your business in written content.

How to Create:

  1. Go to the Briefs menu on the left sidebar.

  2. Click Create Brand Brief.

  3. Answer a series of questions about your brand’s mission, tone, values, and preferences.

  4. Optionally, upload or link to supporting materials (e.g., your website, brand guidelines, brochures).

Brand briefs are used across all projects to ensure consistency in brand voice.

Target Audience Briefs

Target Audience Briefs define the persona or audience segment you're trying to reach.

Why Create Multiple?

Different projects may target different users. For example:

  • A blog for lead generation

  • A landing page for eBook downloads

  • A newsletter for partners or investors

How to Create:

  1. Click Create Target Audience Brief.

  2. Provide demographic, psychographic, and behavioral details.

  3. Optionally include reference materials or content links that align with your audience.

Keep audience briefs up to date to reflect changing campaign goals or market segments.

Writing Style Briefs

Writing Style Briefs define how your content should "sound"—from tone and structure to stylistic choices.

Preset Options Include:

  • Approachable Authority

  • Objective Reporter

  • Empowering Coach

Create Your Own:

  1. Click Create Writing Brief.

  2. Answer AI prompts about tone, format, and preferred language use.

  3. Add reference links (e.g., blog posts or brand-approved writing samples) to guide the AI.

Writing briefs are great for switching styles between formal white papers and casual social posts.

Social Briefs (Preset Only)

Social Briefs are tailored for crafting social media content. They cannot be edited, but you can choose from a wide range of preset styles, such as:

  • Conversational Friend

  • Promotional Announcer

  • Captivating Storyteller

Use these to match your campaign tone to the platform—LinkedIn vs. Instagram, for example.

Image Style Briefs (Preset Only)

Image Briefs guide the AI in generating visuals that support your text content.

Available Styles Include:

  • 2D Flat Illustration

  • Tech Glowing Object Illustration

  • Vibrant Colors Flat Illustration

  • Vivid Photography

You can select one of these presets when you create AI-generated images during project creation.

Using Briefs in Your Workflow

When you start a new project (e.g., creating a blog post):

  1. Go to the Create menu and select a template.

  2. During the AI setup flow, you'll be prompted to select:

    • A Brand Brief

    • A Target Audience Brief

    • A Writing Style Brief

    • (Optional) a Social or Image Brief

By selecting the appropriate briefs, you ensure that every piece of content is personalized, accurate, and consistent with your brand identity.

Maintaining Your Briefs

  • Keep briefs updated if your branding, tone, audience, or policies change.

  • Add new briefs for each campaign, product line, or regional audience.

  • Include style notes such as "use Oxford comma" or "avoid industry jargon."

By setting up and maintaining well-structured briefs in contentmarketing.ai, you give the AI clear direction, resulting in more targeted, higher-quality content every time.
